8 Day Mountain Kilimanjaro – Hike & Safari
This unforgettable eight-day journey combines a challenging Kilimanjaro climb with a thrilling safari. Ascend Africa’s highest peak via the scenic Marangu route, then descend to witness the Big Five in the legendary Ngorongoro Crater and Serval Wildlife Sanctuary.
DAY 1: Arrival in Arusha to Conquer Mt Kilimanjaro
- Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)

DAY 2: First Leg of the Journey; Marangu Gate (1,860 m) → Mandara Hut (2,700 m)
- After breakfast, drive from Arusha (about 2.5 hours) to Marangu Gate for registration.
- Begin the climb through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut.
- Optional side trip to Maundi Crater for views of Northern Tanzania and Kenya.
- Spot unique wildlife like Colobus monkeys and various birds.
- Elevation: 1,860m/6,100ft to 2,700m/8,875ft
- Distance: 8 km/5 mi
- Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

DAY 3: Hike from Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
- Leave the rainforest and ascend to open moorland.
- Stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks along the way.
- Spot giant lobelias and groundsels as the altitude increases.
- Elevation: 2,700m/8,875ft to 3,700m/12,200ft
- Distance: 12 km/7.5 mi
- Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
- Habitat: Heathland
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Horombo Hut (larger A-frame huts accommodating up to 120 climbers)
DAY 4: Hike from Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut (4,700 m)
- Breakfast and briefing at campsite
- Ascend across the barren Saddle desert between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
- Pass the last water point before reaching Kibo Hut.
- Rest early in preparation for the midnight summit attempt.
- Elevation: 3,700m/12,200ft to 4,700m/15,500ft
- Distance: 9 km/5.5 mi
- Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Kibo Hut (stone-built hut with bunk beds)
DAY 5: Summit Day – Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) → Horombo Hut
- Breakfast and briefing at campsite
- Start the climb at midnight, ascending steep scree to Gilman’s Point (5,685m) on the crater rim.
- Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, to catch a breathtaking sunrise.
- Descend back to Kibo Hut for a brief rest and lunch, then continue to Horombo Hut.
- Elevation: 4,700m/15,500ft to 5,895m/19,340ft (Uhuru Peak)
- Descent: Down to 3,700m/12,200ft (Horombo Hut)
- Distance: 6 km/4 mi up / 15 km/9 mi down
- Hiking Time: 6-8 hours up / 5-7 hours down

DAY 6: The Final Descent - Horombo Hut (3,720 m) → Marangu Gate (1,860 m) - Triumph, Celebration & Rest in Arusha
- After breakfast, descend through moorland to Mandara Hut, then continue through the rainforest to Marangu Gate.
- At the gate, receive a summit certificate and celebrate your achievement.
- Drive back to Arusha (about 2.5 hours) for rest and relaxation.

- Bush Lunch by the Hippo pool, locations Lerai or Seneto.
- Head back to the Hotel for dinner
